TRANSGENDER MMA FIGHTER BREAKS SKULL OF HER FEMALE OPPONENT. ARE WE BECOMING TOO CAREFUL NOT TO OFFEND ANY GROUP OF PEOPLE?
Fallon Fox former professional male MMA fighter now female MMA fighter brings up a wave of controversy after her fight against Tamika Brents. Everything happened in the first round in the first two and a half minutes of the fight. As an article says on BJJ World "It was messy, it was bloody and it’s not an easy viewing for everybody. Tamika suffered a concussion and a broken skull and Fallon Fox wasn’t stopping until Tamika Brents was finally TKO’d." Tamika came out with terrible injuries and only had "I've never felt so overpowered in my own life" to say. Tamika being a abnormally strong female and professional fighter, this means a lot. After this event people are still debating of how transgender athletes should be able to compete.
1. What do you think can be done to let transgender athletes to compete and make sure this incident doesn't occur again?
2. Do you think this is acceptable or should be changed?
3. Do you think it is more important to think of the safety or feelings of all athletes?

This shouldn't have been allowed from the very start; on average, men are different from women in strength, so by pitting them against each other, it creates an unfair standard for women.
ReplyDeleteI think it's important to both think of the safety and feelings of all athletes, which some may argue differently but most transgender people get treated differently from "normal" men and women but also if a transgender person switches from a man to a woman then they shouldn't be fighting a female opponent and vise versa, as it is not fair because they had changed their gender completely. :)

ReplyDelete2) I think this is not acceptable and should be change. Minor injuries are fine in the MMA, but Major injuries like a concussion is over the limit.
I think instead of classifying men and women to fight against their own gender and rank, they should open up to consideration athletes who choose to fight the other gender, purely based off strength, not gender and stereotypes. This could be a possible solution to transgender athletes
ReplyDeleteI personally think that everyone is equal no matter what gender they are. MMA fighting can be both girls and boys sport. I feel its acceptable as long as they fight in their own gender but mainly for their own safety. Its important to remember not to stereotype.
ReplyDeleteI think that transgender athletes should get to fight with the gender of their choice. They shouldn't be left out, but the referee should be more careful and stop it if anything bad were to happen.

i think they should only be able to fight with transgendr or possibly some one who they know is as strong so nothing too bad can occur like it did in this situation
ReplyDeleteI think its way too dangerous because men are built differently than women and someone could seriously get injured
ReplyDeleteThis is way to dangerous since first, men are built differently than women. The understanding of the differences between men and women in a way, fall to the ones who are transgender.
ReplyDeleteI think they should be open to consideration athletes who choose to fight the other gender, purely based on strength, not gender and stereotypes, instead of classifying men and women to fight their own gender and rank. This could be a solution for transgender athletes
ReplyDeleteI think that transgender athletes are automatically put in a difficult situation because in this case she was a male mma fighter turned female mma fighter, so automatically she had an advantage. these athletes should fight based on size and strength because simply by gender, more of these accidents will happen
ReplyDeletePeople should fight people with rivaling strengths, not just the same gender. Some women are stronger than others and arent as challenged due to that, so they should fight with men. Vice versa with men. Having an MMA class of non-gendered fighting would be a good solution for transgender fighters and stronger fighters of a gender.
ReplyDeleteIt really doesn't matter the gender. Many women are stereotyped for being weaker than a man, but there are so many who are stronger. Why is this a problem now, just because one is stronger than the other, should not be attacked based on their gender, they just have more training.
ReplyDeleteI think that gender shouldn't matter. Athletes should be able to fight against someone based on their strength, not gender and stereotypes. This will help prevent accidents like this.
ReplyDeleteI think that gender should not opress those who are trans. People should be able to choose the gender they identify with.
ReplyDeleteI think that athletes should fight other opponents based on the gender they identify as and their strength because it will prevent brutal fights like this. This also makes it a fair fight.
ReplyDeleteGabriel Mack - Being transgender means you identify as the opposite of the gender you are biologically. Your biological gender should be used since most men are physically stronger than a woman. She is way too strong to compete with the other women in the tournament, and going up against her is unfair. It is like identifying as a woman to beat a weight lifting record and going back to being a man. It is just not a fair fight.
ReplyDeleteI believe that you should be able to fight because they love to fight and of course their strength. They shouldn't not be able to fight because of there gender, that isn't fair.
ReplyDeleteEveryone should be able to fight no matter wat gender they feel that they are, but there should be some boundaries put into place to prevent something like this from happening again.
ReplyDeleteI believe that they should be able to fight and have the same opportunities regardless of their gender
