Gay Couple Rejected by Texas Venue

a close up of a fence: Image: The Venue at Waterstone in Texas is under fire for refusing to serve a gay couple.
(Venue in which the couple wanted to get married at)

A newly engaged gay couple, Aaron Lucero and Jeff Cannon had gone to Texas to tie their final knot by getting married at a special place. They thought they had found the most perfect spot, which was the venue at Waterstone in Celina, just north of Dallas. Just before their planned tour of the venue they were told that they couldn't get married there due to the owners high held religious beliefs. The couple had received an email from the venues owner in which he had explained how he believed the bride of Christ is joined to the groom and so he wouldn't violate his conscience by letting the couple get married there let alone let them enter the venue. Both Lucero and Cannon were shocked as they were thinking, "it's 2019." The couple didn't think they had to tell people that it was a same-sex wedding, they just thought a wedding is a wedding.

Questions:

1) Do you think it was wrong of the venues owner to let his beliefs get in the way?

2) Should the couple have had the chance to get married at the venue?

3) In your opinion, would you have done the same thing as the venues owner?

  1. In my opinion no i wouldn't have done what the owner did because they already had it planned and from the owner to cancel there plans last minute is ind of disrespectful. like yeah religious belief is important but also getting married to the one so yeah i don't know this is what i think.

  2. In my opinion the couple should have had the chance to get married. It is 2019 and same-sex marriage is legal now. They should be able to get married without and hesitation or reason not to, even if the venue owner had his own beliefs. He should have respected their decision. -Valeria Sanchez

  3. I would not have done the same thing as the venue owner, as I am not anti-gay myself, but he has every right to do what he did.

  4. I think that the couple should've been able to get married at the venue. If the owner said no because they just don't want a wedding then it would be different. To not allow a same sex marriage on the property and not even wanting the partners on the property is absurd. Same sex marriage is legal and couples should not be discriminated against because of their sexuality. It is 2019 after all.

  5. People in same-sex marriage should've had the right to get married where they wanted to as it is just a wedding. Also, The owner shouldn't let his beliefs get in the way of other people because they are people just like him

  6. What the venue owner did was disrespectful and discriminatory towards the couple. They are allowed to marry where ever they want in America as Same-Sex marriage is legal. The owner shouldn't let his beliefs come between two people and their union.
