Europe Plans on Mining the Moon for Natural Resources

The European Space Agency is planning to mine for Water and Oxygen off of the moon by the year 2025. To start their plan they signed a 1-year contract with the European aerospace company, Ariane group, to allow them to start exploring Lunar soil. Through this Europe believes  that mining all the Water and Oxygen, found in the Goliath Layer, it will make it easier in the future for humans to live on the moon. This will also allow them to create rocket fuel allowing more expeditions further into space. With this Europe has made a collaboration between Aerospace scientist and technicians in France, Germany, and Belgium. As of right now, this is only in the research phase, and in the future Europe hopes to use an Ariane 64 rocket to send mining equipment to the moon.

Discussion Questions
1) Do you think that all this time and resources being put into this project are a good use of Europe's time and resources?
2) In the future do you think that people will be able to live on the moon? If so, in how many years?
3) In the future, do you think that Europe will actually go through with this?

  1. I think that in the future, Europe will go through with this idea of mining for resources on the moon. However, I don't think they will consider it any time soon because we still have many resources here on Earth. I do believe that once we begin to urgently run out of resources here to survive, Europe will seriously consider this path.

  2. This is a pointless waste of time and resources. No human will live on the moon by 2025 or 2035 or anytime because who would its barren, boring, and pointless, because when the oxygen up there goes away that gotta refill it. This means more factories, more smog, and less oxygen on earth. I hope to the highest place that Europe realizes this is stupid and a waste of time

  4. I don't living on the moon will happen especially in our life time but living on other places or further expeditions into space seems likely. Looking for natural resources on other planets reads as "we have deflated our planets natural resources and we are growing desperate" I personally think we should focus on find renewable resources before we go looking on other planets.
