On Tuesday, January 15 at 15:00 GMT, (DusitD2) a hotel in Kenya's capital, was put under fire when the car park outside of the hotel caught on fire. A woman working in nearby offices stated that she heard gunshots which led to people fleeing in all directions. Police arrived to the scene, and things were not looking good. People were getting hurt. around 20:00 GMT, all buildings were surrounded by security force. Many people with gun wounds were being escorted out of buildings. Kenya has seen numerous attacks in the previous years.

QUESTIONS:
1. What was the reason behind this attack?
2.  What do you believe Kenya's representatives will say on this attack?
3. Would it make sense for Kenya to place more security?

  1. My opinion for question 3 is that I think that they should place more security to decrease the crime rates and make the country less dangerous.

  2. My opinion for question 1 is that the reason behind the attack is that the people who attacked are unhappy with Kenya's government/ how the way Kenya is going in general since numerous attacks have occurred in Kenya in the previous years, and they attacked a hotel near Kenya's capital. People must be upset with Kenya's government, the economy, etc. For question 3, my opinion is in order for Kenya to have more security for the future, they must place more security in popular areas and pay more attention to danger in order to prevent less attacks and crime.

  4. 1. I think that the reason for this attack was to prove how bad the governments security is, or it is just to show that the people in Kenya think that the government is unfair.

  6. It would make sense for Kenya to invest in more security because they have had multiple attacks in recent years.

  8. I personally believe that we all need to be careful no matter where we are. I really don't know why or how the car caught on fire. But in my opinion we all need police or security guards because they are there to protect us so yes i do think Kenya needs security guards.

  9. Yes, I believe that Kenya's place should be more secured and really safe since it happened more than once.It should be more protected with security guards because there wasn't much help until the police showed up and many people got hurt physically.

  12. I do think that Kenya should have more security because Kenya should be more protected just in case something happens and there should be police close by many areas in Kenya so that something bad can be stopped and prevented.

  13. I think that it would make sense for Kenya to have more security because they had been having different attacks in the past recent years, and in order to keep the people safe they should be more secure.

  14. 1) People are unhappy with the government, they find it is unfair in someways.
2)They would probably say that everything is going to be fine, and that they are going to be more careful that way people aren't scared.
3)It would make sense for Kenya to place more security because they have had attacks and they need to be protected.

  15. 3) I think it would make sense for Kenya to place more security but it is still not 100% secure by adding more security because they already had some and this inccident happen meaning the possibilities of happening again may be lower by putting more security but not too much lower they can still be about a 30% it can happen again when before it could have been a 50%

  16. 3-It would make sense for Kenya to place more security because of how easy it was for the 4 men to place bombs and then light a building on fire.

  17. My opinion on question 1 is that these attacks are either occurring due to acts of terrorism or the attackers are unhappy with what the government is doing to their country but not enough information is provided to tell. For question 2, I believe that the representatives would honestly say that they are going to do something to prevent these attacks from occurring in order to calm down the citizens but nothing really is going to change as the citizens lives are still in danger. For question 3, I believe that Kenya should have tighter security or change the views of the government and find the root cause for these attacks.

  18. I don't believe that it would be a good idea for more security to be placed. This is because that would be taking away from security elsewhere, putting even more people at risk. I believe, that better trained officers would suit the situation rather than a bunch of security guards that aren't well trained. The question is, would it be better to have lots of problems that can't be stopped because there are not enough officers wide spread or one problem that could be handled if the security was better trained.

  19. 3. Kenya is a country with private police as well as the regular corrupt police, so there needs to be better officers put in place so it becomes less corrupt.

  20. 3. Kenya should place a more strict security. It doesn't say whether the attack was done by a group or not, but their should have been someone (security guard, police) there to assist or maybe resolve the problem.
