New York couple goes missing in the Dominican Republic

Orlando Moore and Portia Ravenelle went to the Dominican Republic for a vacation trip. Their original plan was to return home March 27, but never made it to the airport. Moore's half-sister was concerned and reported them missing. The body of a woman fitting the description of Portia Ravenelle was found unconscious near the airport. She was then transferred to the hospital and died 8 days later. The body of a man fitting the description of Orlando Moore was found at sea, but the body was found in a level of decomposition. Police believe they found the car that was rented by the couple located in the ocean. It is said that there is no evidence of foul play. The couples finger prints are currently being processed.

1) Do you think the Dominican Republic is a safe place to visit after this incident?

2) Do you think somebody caused their injuries/deaths?

3) Would finding the car help the police in their investigation?

  1. I do believe that finding the car would help the police continue to investigate because they might find a weapon that was left inside of the vehicle or something that belonged to the couples, so that they could try to examine them. They also could find a bloodstain or marking inside of the vehicle as well.

  2. I still think that the Dominican Republic is a safe place to visit, but I think that tourists should make sure that where ever they are going is a safe area. They should also stay aware of their surroundings. Since this tragic event has happened, I think that tourists should stay in touch with family/friends the whole time they are visiting to prevent a situation like this.

  5. I think that anywhere you visit you should be careful because things happen all the time. It isn't always guaranteed that the Dominican Republic will be safe at all times.
