Border Security / Immigration - Gabriel Mack
Donald Trump is looking to approve a bill from congress to fund $5 billion for his wall.
Trump said in an interview in November, “I don’t do anything … just for political gain.
But I will tell you politically speaking, [this] issue is a total winner.
People look at the rush to the police, they look at the rock throwers and really hurting,
three Border Patrol folks - I think that it’s a tremendous issue …
So we have to have border security.”
The rock throwers Trump is referring to is the Illegal Immigrants who
Border Patrol agents responded to with tear gas.
Border Patrol agents used the tear gas to control migrants who get injured from
rock throwers. In a statement posted on Facebook by the U.S. Department of Homeland
Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen thanked officers and
agents in San Ysidro “who, under tremendous strain, used professionalism and restraint
to ensure that no one was injured as they were attacked themselves.”

Take the San Ysidro incident in November last year for instance when 1,000 Mexicans
tried to unlawfully enter the US. The C.B.P. noted the high prevalence of criminals
in the group which was too overwhelming Mexican Law Enforcement to deal with.
The caravan attempted to cross the border through various vehicle lanes and border fences.
The group committed dozens of assaults on agents and officers at the ports of entry
including rock throwing against four agents. The measures the U.S. Border Patrol used
was effective and prevented the situation from quickly with less-lethal device deployments.
Advancements in technology the dropped use of firearm use from 55 incidents in
2012 to just 15 incidents in 2018.

While it might seem hard to find a compromise between Border Security
and sensible immigration policy there are some solutions that can help.
Some solutions could be to strengthen border security efforts while also
make legal immigration an easier process.
This way much more well intentioned immigrants can enter the US.
And better border security efforts will reduce the amount of drugs such as
Methamphetamine and Fentanyl from illegally entering the country,
and keep out potentially dangerous individuals.
Even Trump said in a POLITICO interview that he has a “big heart of DACA,
I want to be able to keep them. But if the court rules properly,
there will be no problem with DACA and we’ll get everything solved.”
Trump is still willing to take this compromise to help the students who entered
the U.S. illegally, but that would be up to the supreme court to decide.

This was written very well. It made me understand why Trump want to build the wall.

ReplyDeleteTrump's reasoning for doing this isn't necessarily that backed up. Although there are issues at the border, building a wall probably won't help much. Issues seem to be happening at points of entry. Not along the border. It would be better to improve border checks and upping the security at the points that need it more.
ReplyDeleteThis incident did happen at a port of entry. The port of entry had to be closed because of it.
DeleteTrump's idea for building a wall doesn't have a logical explanation or isn't backed up with evidence on why it is a good idea. The problem isn't the wall and Trump should focus mostly on the concept of improving border security and putting the $5 billion to improve other aspects of the US-Mexico border control problems which are seen in current day events. This was written very well and gave the reader an understanding of different point of views.
ReplyDeleteI do agree that $5 billion dollars is quite the price to pay for border protection. And many Border Patrol agents agree that a border would be a great help. I hope people reading the article know that a wall is not an end all solution, but a step to the right solution.
DeleteLegal immigration is good to a certain extent, but illegal immigration is as its name implies: it is illegal.

ReplyDeletein the document above we learn that trump wants to have 5 billion dollars approved by congress for his wall.
ReplyDeleteTrump's wall isn't necessary. There are illegal immigrants, but building a wall will not solve all the problems. There may be problems at the border, but there is no logical reason to build a wall. He should use the money to strengthen the border security and other issues. If he could use the money to better the border security, that might be a better use of the money.

I agree the wall won't solve all the problems. That's why he should also focus on making legal immigration better, and encourage Illegal Immigrants to get a green card and reap the many benefits from citizenship.
DeleteThe wall will not help anything, the people will still try to cross the wall. Yes he is giving students DECA longer but i believe now you have to pay because he wants to collect money for the wall since Mexico doesn't want to play for which it has closed government places for 32 days now which is world record, and now other people here in USA are paying the consequences of others which is unfair- Cindy C 5th period
ReplyDeleteI like how there was a lot of description on why Trump made this decision
